Support Your Local Cleveland Area Blood Drive: March is Red Cross Month!
3/8/2021 (Permalink)
During World War II, the American Red Cross launched a national blood donation program to support the United States armed forces, resulting in over 13 million pints of blood donated. In fact, in 1943, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared March as “Red Cross Month” to urge Americans to contribute to the nation’s war effort.
Almost 100 years later, Americans are finding themselves amid a global pandemic, while families are still relying on the Red Cross for not only blood donations, but comfort and care for disasters, support for military and veterans, and lifesaving training. In the past year, over 300,000 Americans became Red Cross volunteers, including 550 locally in Northern Ohio.
It is time once again for America to unite! Red Cross Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. Blood donations are considered the gift of life and can even be used to treat dire medical cases.
If you cannot give blood, you can support Red Cross disaster relief financially on Giving Day, March 24th. Every 8 minutes, the Red Cross responds to a disaster such as a house fire. A gift of $95, for example, will feed a family of three for a day and provide blankets and other essentials.
The American Red Cross service area includes, but is not limited to Cleveland Heights, Beachwood, and Lyndhurst. To schedule a blood donation, visit https://www.redcross.org/give-blood.html or to make a financial gift, go to https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation.html/ or call 1-800-REDCROSS.
