Water damage is incredibly frustrating and unfortunately can intrude into your residence or commercial business in many ways.
When water damage occurs, it is grouped into three different classifications. Each classification of water damage brings its own concerns and challenges that everyone should be aware of:
- Category 1 - Water originates from a sanitary source and does not pose as a substantial risk from dermal, ingestion, or inhalation exposure.
- Example - Occurs when there is a broken water supply line or when a bathtub or sink overflows, with no contaminants.
- Category 2 - Water contains significant contamination and has the potential to cause discomfort or sickness. Containments can either be chemical or biological.
- Example - Discharges from a dishwasher or washing machines.
- Category 3 - Water is grossly contaminated and can contain pathogenic, toxigenic, or other harmful substances, and cause significant adverse reactions to humans if contacted or consumed.
- Example - Water is in contact with sewage, and any flooding or rising outside water.
